Denpasar – In commemoration of World HIV/AIDS Day, Midwifery lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine at Undiksha encouraged people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) to continue fighting against HIV/AIDS by regularly consuming antiretroviral (ARV) therapy and living life meaningfully. This dedication was shared through the “Bionic Podcast” on December 7, 2024, featuring keynote speakers Ketut Espana Giri, S.T., M.Kes., and Ms.D., and guided by host Dr. Cokorda Agung Wahyu Paramasidhi, M.Biomed., Sp.PD.
Early detection of HIV plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life for PLHIV. However, stigma and discrimination remain prevalent, posing barriers to disclosing status, seeking assistance, and gaining support. This highlights the importance of educating the community to better understand that HIV is not transmitted through everyday interactions such as shaking hands, hugging, or sharing food. What can be done? Prevent HIV: Using condom, conduct regular HIV tests, and avoid sharing needles. Early detection: Taking an HIV test is the first step to obtaining right treatment and support. Support: Be an ally for PLHIV by empathy and combating stigma.
HIV/AIDS is not just an individual concern but a shared responsibility. With knowledge, prevention, and support, we can reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in society and work towards a healthier and more inclusive world.
