Singaraja –Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) are indicators of Maternal and Child Health (KIA) status which can describe the quality and accessibility of health service facilities. Data shows a downward trend in the MMR indicator (per 100,000 live births) from 390 in 1991 to 230 in 2020 or a decrease of -1.80 percent per year. Even though it has decreased, MMR still has not reached the MDGs target (Millennium Development Goals) in 2015, namely 102, and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in 2030, namely less than 70. In the IMR indicator, the data shows a downward trend from 68 in 1991 to 24 in 2017, or a decrease of -3.93 percent per year. Likewise with MMR, the figure for reducing IMR has not yet reached the 2015 MDGs target of 23 and the 2030 SDGs target of 12.
One effort to accelerate the reduction of MMR and IMR is to improve the quality of midwives in providing MCH services. The MCH program is based on the continuum of care so it is necessary to carry out appropriate handling throughout the human life cycle, service provision, business components, continuum of care in programs and linkages, and continuum of care outside the health sector. So that the implementation of MCH services can run smoothly, efforts need to be made to improve quality through preparing human resources from an early age, namely from the education process. Maternal and child health services are based on stages by continuum of care which in this case starts from pre-conception services for women of childbearing age (WUS) and couples of childbearing age (PUS), antenatal services, delivery and newborn services, postpartum services and family planning, infant health services, health services for children under five and pre-schools, to school children and youth services.
Understanding the latest maternal and child health programs and services in Indonesia can provide insight and increase the knowledge and competence of health workers, especially midwives. Based on this background, the D3 Midwifery Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Ganesha Education University will propose holding a National Webinar with the theme “Latest Programs and Services for Maternal and Child Health in Indonesia”.
