Singaraja– Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha)’s steps to establish a health study program do not only stop at the Medical Study Program and the Medical Professional Study Program. This state university in North Bali is preparing to propose a Bachelor of Nursing and Nursing Profession Study Program. In order to strengthen this, an instrument-filling workshop was held which opened on Wednesday (24/2/2021).
This online activity presented a resource person, the Head of the Jakarta Muhammadiyah University Quality Assurance Agency, Miciko Umeda, S.Kp., M.Biomed. Before moving on to the material, there were remarks from the Chairman of the Regional Management Board of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (DPW-PPNI) Bali, Gusti Ngurah Sukadarma, S.Kp., M.Kes. He responded positively to Undiksha’s desire to establish an Undergraduate Study Program in Nursing and the Nursing Profession. According to him, this will provide opportunities and easy access for the country’s children. Not only high school/vocational school graduates but also nurses who will take part in the level transfer program. “Of course, this will provide convenience, especially in the provinces of Bali and Eastern Indonesia,” he said. He further stated that based on the latest data, there are already eight nursing higher education institutions in Bali. If the study program at Undiksha is formed, it is hoped that healthy competition will grow and the benefits will be felt by the community.
The curriculum for this study program has begun to be discussed. He hopes that the curriculum will be able to produce or output in the form of bachelor’s degree nurse graduates who can compete in the global world. This means you can also meet job opportunities abroad. “Because currently there is actually a lot of demand for nursing staff who can work abroad. And so far, it could be said that we have not optimized this opportunity. I think that if all nursing educational institutions really work together, and then direct their curricula to be able to compete in the global world, Bali will not only send workers abroad who have been dominated by friends in tourism but also staff health, especially nurses,” he said. At the end of his speech, he reiterated his support for the establishment of this study program and it is hoped that it can be realized soon.
Undiksha Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I., who opened the workshop, said that the establishment of this study program aims to improve the quality of Human Resources (HR), especially in the nursing field, especially Bali and Eastern Indonesia. “The Chancellor hopes that this study program can be formed. “Of course, we ask for the support of all related parties,” he said.
This 46-year-old academic also added that apart from nursing, Undiksha is also preparing to propose a Bachelor of Midwifery and Midwifery Profession Study Program. Currently, Undiksha only has a Diploma III program, which is an integration of the Bali Provincial government and starting January 2021 is under the Faculty of Medicine. (hms)
