On 18-21 November 2019, precisely in the Undiksha Rectorate building, Ganesha 3 Central Campus, FK Undiksha held an International Seminar with the title “International Workshop and Introduction of The Application of Nuclear Technology for Health: Lecture of Dose Calculation for Health and Foods using PHITS Computer Code“. Looking at the use of nuclear technology in the development of the health sector is the first step to continue improving quality. This breakthrough is also to support the specialty of the study program, namely tourism medicine.
At the workshop, FK Undiksha presented several competent speakers. One of them is from the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), domestic industry players, and Japan who utilize nuclear technology. Apart from that, FK Undiksha presented speakers from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
On the sidelines of this international seminar, Undiksha Deputy Chancellor III, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., hopes that this workshop can provide students with an understanding of how to master nuclear technology so that its use can be better understood and accepted by the wider community. “We hope that in the future there will be a Nukli center in Bali or perhaps in Singaraja which can be used for the benefit of the community,” he said

A representative from the Deputy for Industrial Institutions at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani, said that the health sector is very closely related to the tourism sector. Health services must be able to run optimally. He also hopes that Undiksha can make this happen, especially if nuclear technology is applied. “It is hoped that the use of nuclear will have an impact on the tourism industry in general,” she said
Meanwhile, Deputy for Nuclear Technology Utilization, BATAN Dr. Hendig Winarno said that until now, nuclear is mostly known as an explosive. But actually, it can be used for the development of the health sector and the agricultural sector. Undiksha, as a higher education institution that has several faculties and is supported by human resources, is considered a potential partner that can be collaborated with in its development. “We hope that nuclear technology can be useful for the wider community, both in Indonesia and Bali,” he said.
Deputy Regent of Buleleng, dr. I Nyoman Sutjidra, Sp.OG said that currently, the number of hospitals that utilize nuclear technology is still relatively small. The Buleleng Regency Government also supports if this can be applied to RSUD so that it can improve the quality of service to the community. “If nuclear power is utilized as well as possible, it will be very beneficial,” he concluded. The seminar also included the signing of an MoU with the Ministry of Crafts regarding tourism health services. Apart from the main event, there were also further discussions with resource persons.
