Students from the Faculty of Medicine, Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) have once again succeeded in making international achievements. They consist of Made Suda Cakra Wibawa, Ketut Alit Wira Adi Kusuma, Hendry Juniartha, Tharissa Caraswathi Sugita, and A.A.A Lie Lhianza Mahendra Putri. This team succeeded in winning silver in the 2020 International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exposition (IPITEx) which took place in Thailand from 2 to 6 February 2020.
Confirming this, Suda Cakra Wibawa explained that this achievement was thanks to the innovation that was born. His team made a product in a gel form that was able to treat SAR (Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis) caused by Candida albicans from mango leaves. The emergence of this idea was based on the high local wisdom of the Balinese people and attention to the impact of waste on the environment. In order to get the best results, in-depth research was carried out on the active ingredients of mango leaves which have been chemically proven to be able to inhibit the growth of candida albicans through several tests. “We conducted research for about five months. “Compounds from mango leaves are packaged into gel form so that it is practical and efficient for people to use,” he explained.
A socio-economic approach is also taken to make the product easy to use. It is hoped that this product can be improved and can be implemented in reality through various clinical trials. “Of course, we want the products we make to provide benefits for people’s health,” he said.
To achieve this brilliant achievement, the team consisting of second and fourth-semester students had to compete with teams from 23 countries consisting of hundreds of inventions. “To be able to take part in this competition, there is a national abstract selection, then after passing it goes to the administrative stage and then to the international stage which is filled with presentations,” he explained.
He added that this achievement could not be separated from the full support of the Rectorate and Dean of FK Undiksha. “Hopefully in the future, we can provide more achievements,” he added. Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd appreciated this achievement and was proud because FK, which was only founded in 2018, has been able to produce competitive Human Resources. “This is an extraordinary achievement. “FK is still very young, but its students can already perform at international level,” he said.
Opportunities for competition at bigger events are still wide open. Therefore, Chancellor Jampel asked students to continue to develop their potential, including those from outside FK. “We continue to encourage students to excel. “Especially those who receive scholarships,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chancellor III Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., explained that this achievement is not only important for increasing the competitiveness of students, but also universities, both at national and international levels. “Higher education clustering cannot be separated from student achievement. “Of course, we appreciate this achievement,” he said.
It was further stated that Undiksha is very focused on improving student achievement. Participation in the competition is strictly selected. “This competition is prepared. So Undiksha doesn’t just send. “We want to get maximum results,” he added.
