This disorder is often characterized by numbness in the legs and feet, followed by the appearance of lesions on the skin. Leprosy can spread through saliva splashes when the sufferer coughs or sneezes.
In Indonesia itself, leprosy is a common disease, even one of the highest. Based on the latest data from WHO in 2020, the number of leprosy cases in Indonesia is ranked third largest in the world, namely 8%. Many myths have developed about leprosy. Even though it can be contagious, leprosy is a type of skin disease that can be treated and is rarely a cause of death. However, this bacterial infection has the risk of causing disability in the sufferer.
Located in the FK UNDIKSHA Building (Sunday, 26/2/2023), this time the Faculty, which has the distinctive color “PURPLE”, collaborates with PERDOSKI (Indonesian Association of Dermatology and Venereology Specialists) to carry out activities to commemorate World Leprosy Day 2023 with the theme “PC DENPASAR/ KSMHI/FK UNDIKSHA GOES TO CAMPUS, ACT NOW. END LEPROSY”.
This World Leprosy Day event is celebrated to remind the world, in this case especially Indonesia, that leprosy infection still exists. Indonesia is still the 3rd country with the most leprosy cases in the world. With this activity, FK Undiksha hopes that the awareness and knowledge of medical personnel in Indonesia regarding leprosy can increase, towards the eradication of leprosy according to the target. Sustainable Development Goals in 2030, where the prevalence of leprosy is <0.05 per 10,000 population.
In this activity, not only FK Undiksha students took part, also present were the Deputy Dean III of FK Undiksha, the Chair of PERDOSKI, skin and genital specialist doctors, as well as FK Undiksha lecturers.(Red_FK)
