Singaraja –The Month of Service is a form of community service carried out for a whole month, where this activity takes the form of educating the public about health. As medical students, of course, we should be at the forefront in educating the public about the importance of health. The 2021 Bali Regional Month of Service has the theme “Non-Communicable Diseases”. This theme was raised because the pandemic situation which has not yet ended in 2021 has in fact made people only focus on COVID-19 even though there are still many diseases that require action from medical personnel, especially non-communicable diseases. The types of non-communicable diseases highlighted in this year’s month of service are “Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus”.
The 2021 Bali Regional Month of Service was carried out by students from the Faculty of Medicine, Ganesha Education University who had the opportunity to host, the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Warmadewa University. This year’s Month of Service is held annually online and offline. The online activity carried out is uploading a podcast hypertension theme, uploading a podcast with the theme of diabetes mellitus, uploading infographics on the theme of hypertension and diabetes mellitus three times (gradually over three weeks), uploading quizzes with prizes three times (gradually over three weeks), uploading educational videos, and uploading information open donation for counseling via official Instagram account @bulanbakti_bali. As for activities carried out, namely counseling, poster presentations, and providing PPE at Landih Village, North Bangli, Bali Province which was carried out for one day while still implementing health protocols.
Before the devotional month activities began, an official opening was first online using a Zoom meeting on June 12 2021 which was attended by the Dean of Ganesha University of Education and his staff, the Dean of Udayana University and his staff, the Dean of Warmadewa University and his staff, the Secretary of Region 4 of ISMKI, and the entire committee totaling 126 people. After the opening, there was a “Watch Together with the Hypertension Podcast” session which was attended by all the attendees. Furthermore, on July 3, 2021, an outreach event was held in Landih Village, North Bangli, Bali Province. Before determining the location for the counseling, the committee carried out a survey and made a study of places that might be suitable. Starting from assessing the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus cases, community conditions, local village conditions, access to transport, health services, etc. The outreach activity began with the official opening of the event carried out by the Head of Landih Village, North Bangli. This was then continued with a session providing material presented by a sixth-semester medical student named Mr. Rama Vinnu Isyawan. The public and guests seemed enthusiastic about listening to the presenters. Next, a discussion session was held in which several residents actively participated in asking questions to the resource person. After the discussion ended, the event continued with the presentation of posters by the community service unit, where these posters were then pasted in public spaces so that they could be easily read by the public so that the information contained in them could be distributed. The event then continued with the symbolic giving of PPE by the committee chairman to the Head of Landih Village, North Bangli. The event then closed with the presentation of a betel nut by the chairman of the committee and the Head of Landih Village, North Bangli. After the outreach activities, there are still several online activities carried out such as uploading educational videos and quizzes with prizes for the third week on July 4 2021 via Instagram @bulanbakti_bali. The winners of the quiz with prizes were finally announced on July 6, 2021, where every week the two best winners were selected so that a total of six winners received prizes in the form of go pay.
